Flush from filing
I’ve filed nominating petitions before and it’s usually a standard process. Drop off petitions, make sure that the i’s are dotted and the t’s are crossed, notarize this form, sign here. This year was an exception, though. This year, Lisa and I were accompanied by the lovely Lia Grace, who is now, obviously, the star of this family. We dropped off our petitions and finished our business with the city clerk pretty quickly, but all eyes were on Lia Grace as city hall workers stopped in to see her. This was really the first time we’ve taken her outside for an extended period and a lot of people had yet to meet her.
It really changes your perspective on things when you go from 3rd ward councilman to afterthought. People were still friendly but while they usually engage me in conversation, today, it was more like “Hi Mike. Aaawwwww, the baby!” Lia Grace attracted quite a crowd. For her big public debut, she did what she does best; slept right through it all!
